System Types
Addressable fire alarm systems
An addressable fire alarm system is a little more sophisticated than the more basic conventional type.
Every device connected to the addressable system’s wiring loop has its own unique address – hence the name. This means that when a fire or fault is detected, the fire alarm control panel is able to tell you exactly which device has been activated, where it is located, and whether it’s a detector or a call point. This, in turn, means you have more chance of locating a fire and taking the necessary action in the most efficient way.
Although addressable equipment cost is higher than conventional, they are generally easier to install due to all of the devices being connected to one, wire ‘loop’, rather than by individual cables. This also reduces the amount of cable required and in most cases makes them many cost effective to install.
Conventional fire alarm systems
Conventional fire alarm equipment tends to be the cheapest of the types of fire alarm, however, they are more costly to install because they require more wiring, which in turn means more time is needed from the fire alarm installation team.
A conventional system will not be able to tell you the precise location of the fire detector which has operated only the common zone. Each zone can have up to 20 individual detectors to connected to it so this will slow down the tracing of the detector in a fire or fault condition
This means they can still be used as a cheaper solution even in premises with multiple floors or areas as long as the arrangement is fairly simple. However, we wouldn’t recommend them for more complex buildings.
Wireless Fire Alarm Systems
Wireless fire alarm systems are great for premises where the installation of cabling is not practical or not cost effective.
We have experience of using wireless fire alarm system in many different type of premises especially listed premises, and historic buildings.
Due to the lack of cable installation required the device installation is a lot easier. However, the equipment is far more expensive than a cabled system and has a number of ongoing costs associated with it like the replacement of batteries.
Hybrid fire alarm systems
A hybrid fire alarm system is a mixture of an addressable wired system and a wireless system and is a very convenient way of getting over an awkward wring problem in part of a building.
